Class-Action Lawsuit Accuses Audi of Start-Stop Malfunctions

The automobile manufacturer, Audi, is one of the latest companies hit with a class-action lawsuit for a defective part. The lawsuit claims that Audi willfully ignored an auto defect in the start/stop function in thousands of 2017-2020 vehicles that is “dangerous to drivers, vehicle occupants and innocent bystanders” and “could result in injuries or even deaths.”

The alleged defect causes the power steering and brake assist to turn off for an extended period of time while the vehicle is still moving. This causes delays in acceleration, braking, and steering, which the lawsuit claims makes the vehicle unsafe to operate.

Defect in the Start/Stop Function

According to one plaintiff in the lawsuit, he purchased a 2018 Audi A6 and did not know at the time of the purchase that the vehicle’s start/stop engine function was defective and did not function as it should.

He claims that Audi’s unlawful and deceptive conduct in marketing, manufacturing and selling of the vehicle has caused him out-of-pocket expenses as well as diminished the value of his vehicle. Another plaintiff stated that he was fearful of being hit by oncoming traffic at times when he had no control over his vehicle.

If you own a 2017-2020 Audi and you have experienced engine shutdown while driving or delays in your brakes, acceleration, or power steering, contact our lemon law attorneys at (888) 449-7639 to learn more about your legal options.

Additionally, vehicle owners have reported that the dealership has been no help in replacing or repairing the defective systems and continues to sell and market the vehicles without notifying buyers of the potential dangers.

Lemon Law vs. Class Action Lawsuit

With class actions, a large group of people who were all wronged by the same corporation will file a lawsuit as one entity instead of individuals in court. If the judge rules in favor of the lawsuit’s claim, all of the award money is split between each person who is part of the legal complaint. Depending on how many individuals there are and how large the lump sum is, this may mean each person only receives a small amount of compensation for their losses.

While you may be eligible to take part in the current class-action lawsuit against Audi, it may be in your best interest to instead file a lemon law claim, if applicable for your situation.
